Not ugly enough!
Conventional wisdom says attractive people are more likely to be hired. But it’s a bit more complicated than that.
Two Israeli researchers send out CVs with pictures – rated according to attractiveness – for 2,500 different jobs.
They found that handsome men were marginally more likely to get an interview, but that an attractive woman would have to send out 11 CVs to get an interview compared to seven for an identically qualified “plain” candidate.
And who do they blame? They name HR professionals, mostly female, who consign beautiful candidates to the bin. Surely not! We would never do this and in fact welcome applications particularly from any good-looking men (George Clooney, this is your chance!).
