Filling the GAP in HR services: Handbook Bribery
We’ve recently been through the annual handbook update process – no mean feat with the number of golf clubs we support!
The handbook gets updated as employment law changes and issues and problems our clients face arise.
It’s our view that prevention is MUCH better than the cure – the more rules and guidelines in your handbook, the easier it is for you to manage, knowing that you’ve got strong foundations backing you up.
Anyway, once we’ve finished the handbooks, it’s time to send them out into the world.
As you can imagine, our clients don’t tend to find the time to read the mighty tomes that handbooks have become, which is why we provide a list of changes that have been made each year
We need them to respond to say that they’ve acknowledge the changes, so we stick an ethical bribe in – once you’ve responded acknowledging the changes you get chocolate!
Now, we’re not endorsing bribery here: that’d be a pretty renegade move from employment law specialists, but there’s definitely a lesson here for managing your team:
Find out what they love, and if you are able to give them it, use it as a carrot for them to perform at the highest possible level.
In our experience, golf club managers love chocolate, so that’s why we’ve gone down that route – find out what your staff love and use it to make good things happen in your club.
