How HR Help Restored this Business Owner’s Confidence

According to Sara Cheeney, the founder and owner of Pure Perfection Clinic; a successful beauty salon in North Wales, employing staff is, “a rollercoaster and definitely the hardest part of running a business”. Like most companies, she started small and in the early days took advantage of free HR services provided by local government funding. However, as the business grew and she took on more staff Sara came to the conclusion she needed specialist HR help.

I met Carolyne a few years ago at an event and I thought what she did was really good and very professional.” It was a tricky issue with a member of staff that ultimately moved her to pick up the phone.

“During a staff meeting, a member of staff screamed at me which was obviously inappropriate. The person was trying to push me to give them more money and trying to get other members of staff to go against me.”

By the end of the day, the employee had walked out the door, but other members of staff were causing problems which made Sara doubt her abilities as a business leader.

“Carolyne was on the phone to help me very quickly and also helped me out of hours, which was amazing. We had frank conversations where she gave me reassurance that I was doing the right things and that I run a really professional company. I was doing everything right, and that was something I doubted when several staff were coming at me.

“She really helped me to keep me strong and ready to deal with everything in the right way professionally, giving me correct advice and helping to motivate me. This has made me more confident to run the business in a better way.”

“When you have a small business, you’re trying to operate the marketing, the HR and all the other business functions yourself. So when you can offload some of that to a professional, it takes the pressure off. I don’t have to worry about it. I also know that if there is a problem, I can call Gap HR and speak to someone about it and get the help I need before the issue becomes detrimental to the company.

“I sometimes get approached by people asking for business coaching. I appear to have fallen into that role. If they are looking for HR services, I often recommend they use Gap HR because I am that confident in what they do.”
